    What You Can Expect

This tour will give us the opportunity to visit the Ancient Agora of Athens which is the largely green area in between Monastiraki and the Acropolis, as well as discover the secrets of Greek gastronomic tradition. After your pick-up from your hotel, we are heading towards Monastiraki square, a can’t-miss spot of the city of Athens, from ancient rivers and huge libraries to thousand-year-old churches and cursed mosques; Monastiraki square is arguably a place of wonder.

We cross the Monastiraki square and we get closer to the Ancient Agora of Athens, in the shadow of Acropolis or the Athenian Forum if you may, which was the heart of ancient Athens, the focus of political, commercial, administrative and social activity, the religious and cultural centre, and the seat of justice. Today it’s one of the city's most important archeological sites. Not only you will get to see the most well preserved classic temple, dedicated to Volcan, but you will have the chance to step in a Stoa or portico, that houses the findings of the site today. This Stoa is reconstructed back in the 50s and its one of the most fascinating buildings-museums in the city!

After our visit to Ancient Agora, we cross Athinas street getting to the Varvakios Agora (Athens Central Market). This is literally the Grand Central Station of food, where people from all walks of life converge to discover the freshest and most delicious ways to satiate their hunger. As we get down towards the Varvakios, we will stop for a while to taste kouloúria (sesame bread rings).Make no mistake; everyone shops here, from celebrity chefs to neighborhood grocery store owners. Named after one of Greece’s national heroes, philanthropist and gentleman Ioannis Varvakis (1745-1825), it is a tribute to the everyman, as the Athens Central Market, aka the Varvakios, knows no class divides. We will wander in the meat market and the fish market to get to know the riches of the Greek seas, buy fruits and vegetables and finally, we will try a traditionally - brewed Greek coffee.

Further down on Evripidou street we will stop at the well-known “Miran”charcuterie, to taste “tsipouro“or “ouzo” with pastrami, delicious sausages and smoked pork meat from the north or the south of Greece.

Our tour will finish at around 13:00 and we are heading towards your hotel.
